Mechanical Design Manager –
Central England - Ref: M055
International Multi-disciplinary, dealing with many PFI
Educational and Hospital projects, is looking for a Mechanical Design
Manager to cover their central England region, including their
Nottingham, Manchester and Birmingham offices.
The responsibilities of the role include: Undertaking sufficient
preliminary electrical design to allow costing of small design and build
tenders; Co-ordinating information to external consultants for doing the
same; Agreeing scope of works for external consultants; Liaising with
estimating to ensure sufficient information; Liaising with the Regional
Design Manager to identify risk items to allow management of risk;
Agreeing strategy and scope of works with the external consultant and
project manager; Attending preliminary meetings to ensure key items are
addressed; Assistance to the Project Manager for particular design
issues.
Further responsibilities include: Leading external design consultants to
ensure that service is provided; Agreeing scopes of work with external
design consultants; Ensuring flow of information to the estimating
department and managers; Reviewing proposals against the ITN
documentation; Reviewing risk areas and initiating risk management;
Reviewing submission data for presentation and commercial
manoeuvrability; Liaison between different areas within our client’s
group and attendance at meetings; Ensuring a consistent approach to FPI
projects; Agreeing strategy and scope of works with the external
consultant and project manager; Attending preliminary meetings to ensure
key items are addressed; Assistance to the Project Manager for
particular design issues.
Types of work on which the successful candidate will be engaged include:
PFI schools, PFI hospitals, miscellaneous PFI projects, design and build
of commercial offices, schools and offices.
Knowledge of AutoCAD and Cymap would offer an advantage. Salary is
