Electrical Design Engineer,
Permanent, Full-Time, Oxfordshire. Our client is currently constructing
the largest scientific facility to be built in the UK for 30 years. The
building, once completed, will consist of three accelerators 0 a 100 MeV
linac, a 3 GeV booster synchrotron and a 562 m circumference 3 GeV
storage ring – and an initial complement of 7 beam lines which will be
operation a for users from 2007 with an additional 15 beam lines,
announced recently, to be operational by 2011. The primary duties of
this post are to provide electrical engineering design support to the
technical systems of the facility. The successful candidate will be
required to: Work closely with internal and external scientific and
engineering staff to produce electrical designs for projects including
motion control for optical systems, vacuum control systems for vessels
and beam tubes, safety interlock systems for personal protection and
electrical installations for buildings and experimental areas including
power distribution lighting telecoms and HVAC; Develop and apply
expertise in technologies such as: Programmable logic controllers,
sensors, actuators and encoders; Use of Computer Aided Design software
packages (AutoCAD); Procurement of equipment through commercial
suppliers; Supervision of internal and contract design staff and control
of quality; Contribute to hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises;
Maintain and update engineering drawings and documentation on projects;
Work within DLS procedures and contribute to their development.
Due to the changing nature of our client’s business, the job description
will invariably change. The successful candidate will therefore, from
time to time, be required to undertake other activities of a similar
nature that will fall within his/her capabilities as directed by
management.
The successful candidate is likely to have the following skills and
experience: HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline; Ability to
provide ideas and creative solutions to design problems; Good working
knowledge of a CAD system with at least 2 years fulltime experience;
Self motivated and with the ability and initiative to get to the heart
of a problem and see it through to completion; Demonstrate good oral and
written communication skills; Good background in Electrical Engineering;
Excellent working knowledge of engineering drawings and working to
specification s for controls and electrical designs; Experience of
working in a team, discussing work with other team members and
presenting ideas and solutions to engineers or customers; Background in
the use of computers and data handling including Microsoft Office
Systems, Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc; Good working knowledge of AutoCAD;
Must be available to travel on work related business with occasional
overnight stays; Light manual tasks may be involved during
commissioning.
Qualifications and experience which would be advantageous to candidates
includes: Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline; Technical
apprenticeship; Engineering Council registration and membership of
relevant professional body; Some appreciation of electrical calculations
packages; Experience of supervising design office work; Experience of
working within a QA system; Good appreciation of project management;
Experience of overseeing manufacture, assembly, testing and
commissioning of systems; Competence in tow or more of Motion Control,
safety interlock systems, electrical installations for building and
experimental equipment, including, power distribution, lighting,
telecoms, HVAC etc, PLCs, sensors, actuators, encoders and vacuum
technology; Current valid UK driving licence.
Our client is offering a generous salary package up to £35K pa according
